I'm teaching a class during the summer. I think that it's on cultural contact theory and that it meets a Gen Ed requirement. At first the students wander in and out of class so it's impossible to get the group engaged and participating. After a pep talk, things improve, but it's still a five hour long session and I'm not very prepared. An older student gives an in-class presentation that nobody seems to understand (video references of uncertain quality). I dig around for the cdr/audio files of my Caribbean culture survey course that we use for a 'guess the country/language' game with roots music. On break I walk around and meet the students, some of whom are in the process of moving into their very nice dorms (clean and modern interiors but historic buildings) or using the cafeteria for the first time. Some nice students ask me why our class is meeting in person since it's online. I confirm separately that this is the case. Another student lends me their high school study packet for AP Sociology (they're reviewing it for our class). After break I acknowledge the long session and the online nature of the course (as well as that online courses can be 10% in person and that I want to make sure that there is a sense of connection between students and with me). I have an essay exam prepared for them but eventually decide to dismiss class and quickly work on the online platform
This dream reflects feelings of inadequacy and a lack of preparation in a leadership role or teaching position in your waking life. The disengaged students wandering in and out of class symbolize a sense of frustration and difficulty in getting others to participate and engage with the material. The long five-hour session suggests a feeling of being overwhelmed or burdened by the responsibilities you feel you must fulfill.
The confusion and lack of understanding surrounding the older student's presentation may indicate feelings of being out of your depth or struggling to grasp a certain concept or situation. The use of audio files and games in the dream may represent a desire to make learning more interactive and engaging.
Meeting the students during the break and witnessing some of them moving into new dorms or using the cafeteria for the first time could symbolize new beginnings or transitions in your waking life, possibly related to education or personal growth.
The question posed by the students about why the class is meeting in person when it's supposed to be online may reflect a sense of confusion or miscommunication in a particular situation or relationship.
Overall, this dream may be pointing to feelings of unpreparedness, confusion, and a desire for connection or understanding in a current situation or project in your waking life. It suggests a need to address and resolve these feelings of inadequacy and ambiguity in order to move forward and feel more confident in your abilities.
